Rotary Charity Golf day What is Rotary?Founded in 1905, and thus entering its second century of service, Rotary is a world wide organisation of like-minded business and professional men and women whose main aim is to serve those who are less fortunate than themselves - by fellowship, fun and - well - fundraising. From helping third world poverty, reducing polio and malaria, correcting sight, hearing dogs for the deaf, mercy ships, to providing safe water supplies - the aid is targeted by local Rotary clubs the world over. There is also a strong programme to help the youth of the world - from public speaking events here in the UK, to student exchange programmes. Westminster East Rotary ClubThe local community is not forgotten - Westminster East are currently supporting the Soho Christmas lunch club for pensioners, the Shooting Star Children's Hospice, The Samaritans, Kids Out Pimlico Puffins (a swimming club for disabled) and local Inner City schools as well as some of the international and national charities mentioned above. There is an opportunity to meet Rotarians world wide - and it is an acknowledged part of membership that you are free to visit any club worldwide. We have some "fun" times also. Along the way we have good, entertaining and informative speakers at most of our weekly meetings. Everything we do from fund-raising to fun events is done with a great spirit of fellowship and (we hope) laughter. We meet Thursday evenings at 6.15pm at the Charing Cross Hotel (adjacent to - indeed part of) Charing Cross Station, the Strand, in Central London.
